WCF President to attend PACC 2012

WCF President, Kate Caithness

World Curling Federation President, Kate Caithness, to attend Pacific-Asia Curling Championships 2012 in Naseby, New Zealand, in November.

As part of the WCF's ongoing commitment to the development of curling in the Pacific-Asia region, WCF President Kate Caithness will travel from Scotland to attend the PACC 2012 and offer her support in person to the Teams, volunteers and local organising committee members responsible for putting on this event.

Ahead of her arrival, Caithness offered the following welcome to everyone attending this year's PACC:

On behalf of the World Curling Federation and our 49 Member Associations, it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to Naseby, New Zealand for the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships 2012.

Naseby hosts this event (formerly Pacific Curling Championships) for the second time following the success of the 2008 Championships held here. It is however the fourth time that New Zealand has welcomed the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships after they were held in Christchurch in 1994 and Queenstown in 2002.

I would like to congratulate the six women’s and seven men’s Teams who have earned the right to represent their Member Association here in Naseby. Performances at this event determine qualification for the World Women’s and World Men’s Curling Championships, where Teams will earn qualification points for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The stakes are high and I know that each and every athlete will be here to do their best and, in so doing, will showcase our sport to the world.

Naseby has a long association with our sport, dating back over 100 years. For the World Curling Federation, it is an honour to return to this part of the world which is steeped in curling history. We all look forward to sampling Naseby’s famously warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage.

I would like to pay tribute to the hard work undertaken by the Local Organising Committee, the Pacific-Asia Curling Federation, New Zealand Curling Association, volunteers and officials in hosting these Championships.

I am personally looking forward to enjoying my first Pacific-Asia Curling Championships, having witnessed the rapid development of our sport in this region in recent years.

To everyone coming to Naseby – competitors, organisers, volunteers and fans alike – I would like to wish you all ‘Good luck and Good Curling!’
